This is a sponsored review by BlogHer and Purina.
I said nay nay- dogs have been eating food that smells like Play-Doh for years, and I’ve never had a fat dog before. Coach pointed out that while that may very well be true, I too had been eating food that wasn’t entirely natural, and it was catching up with me as well.
There may have been an argument which may have led to an unfortunate Little Debbie Swiss Cake Roll incident involving both Mack and me. We share a fondness for artificial food fillers.
Coach began doing dog food research and made a few suggestions. I took said suggestions into consideration and then said we’d be better off just putting $20 bills in the dog food bowls and calling it a day.
Then I muttered something about spending all our money feeding cars and dogs, which would inevitably lead to me having to cook mulch for my human family. Coach missed the humor in my remark.
Honestly, we didn’t make a change. I rationalized that both dogs had reached their prime, they had a companion for life, they were gainfully employed guarding our house against hot air balloons, and they had a rock solid nap schedule. So what if one was a little thick in the middle? What did he have to prove?
And just like that, he started to slim down. We were baffled. He wasn’t running three miles a day, he wasn’t eating twigs and berries, he wasn’t doing anything differently, but he was dropping weight.
Men.
Then our neighbor came over and proceeded to tell me that Mack had been irritated at him because they hadn’t had their daily breakfast for a while.
Whaaaaa?
Oh sure. Our retired neighbor has taken quite a liking to Mack. He comes over every morning and throws ball with him. In his bathrobe. And slippers. WITH HIS NEWSPAPER. Back in the fall, he took it a little far. Apparently he was cooking a pound of bacon and a dozen eggs and sharing them with Mack. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. My homeboy was putting a hurt on some pork product.
Thus the inexplicable weight gain. Well, Mack’s inexplicable weight gain anyway. It wasn’t until Mr. Retired Neighbor went to the doctor and found out his cholesterol was higher than the GDP of Peru that the early morning artery parties stopped. Then he started eating fruit and oatmeal (Mr. Retired Neighbor that is.) Mack didn’t hang with him for steel cut oats and blueberries. He’s not that kind of dog. So, much to his dismay, he lost weight.
But Coach was stuck on doggie nutrition and we ended up trying Purina Pro Plan Selects. It’s more cost-friendly than other premium dog foods that don’t contain artificial fillers. The ingredients are natural, and it comes in several flavors. Mack and Ivy prefer the Beef and Barley Formula.
Your dog might prefer the Salmon and Brown Rice Formula. Your dog is probably much more sophisticated than our dogs. Our dogs eat rocks and chase tennis balls all day. They don’t care what they put in their bodies. And frankly, I’ve never met a piece of beef I didn’t like, so I figured what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, or the dog, or whatever.
So we’ve decided to stick with Purina Pro Plan Selects because we have noticed an increase in both dogs’ energy levels, both of their coats are soft and shiny, and they are both able to play for longer periods of time.
To help you out, BlogHer and Purina are sponsoring a $100 Visa giveaway beginning today and running through May 31. You can use it to buy your pet Pro Plan Selects, or you could buy yourself some shoes and send your husband to pick up the Pro Plan Selects. You know- whatever.
If you're still not sure about a food switch, go here and read other reviewers' experiences, AND you can enter many more times for a Visa gift card.
To be entered in the drawing, send me a comment with your e-mail address, and tell me one thing that makes your pet unique. Or you can just tell me what you had for dinner- it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you read and follow the rules carefully.

See y'all!
I have a fat dog and a fit dog. That is because the fat one eats what he wants before he allows the fit dog to eat. I, too, don't like to spend a fortune on dog food -- mostly because I don't have a fortune. But, I do like to give them as nutritious an option as possible. And if you ask me, dog food that smells like play-doh would be an upgrade to some of the brands I have smelled before. I think I'll print me a coupon and give it a go. :-)

ReplyDeleteI have a cat, Houdini, who is a ragdoll, we think, though we got him at the shelter. He acts like a baby and dog; he wants to be held alot, hangs over my shoulder like a baby. He follows us around like a dog. He is very comforting, and funny. He also likes to play, and likes to be scratched on his stomach, which is rare for a cat. Pets are unconditional love. I don’t, however, like the fur balls, and this morning, I think he had eaten some easter grass, and it apparently did not agree with him. At least it came out. :) )

She runs along with the two younger dogs even though she has a bad back leg from where someone shot her before we rescued her. Bella is unique because she "smiles" at you and loves to do pirouttes. Honey is unique because, as my husband and I tell her, she is filled with nothing but silliness and love. Lulu is unique because she had to have one of her front legs amputated but she still runs as fast as the rest of the dogs and digs in the yard. Ani Mae is unique because she has two extra toes on each back foot. She is also my little shadow. Pretty is unique because she is such a funny little girl. She is also my shadow and protector. Duchess' personality makes her unique. She knows she deserves the best. She came to us as a stray. She was in bad shape. She had heart worms, skin infection, ear infections, and parasites. After getting her treated by the vet, we brought her home with us. She acted like royalty, hence the name. Duchess has been with us for 8 years now and we could not be more pleased with her. And yes, she still sees herself as royalty.

We have 3 dogs, all mixed breeds we rescued. All of them are special but the one that makes me laugh the most is the smallest one, Bailey. She loves all stuffed animals (we call them her babies) and is constantly trying to sneak into my 14 year old daughter's room to steal her Webkinz. Bailey has a particular fondness for "Karl" the Webkinz llama that lives on my daughter's bed. Anytime Karl is left unattended and Danielle's door is open, Bailey makes a mad dash to steal Karl and drag him under the dining room table that Bailey has converted to her personal baby-den. The other day Bailey snagged Karl while Danielle's back was turned and when she saw Bailey dragging Karl as fast as she could out of the room, she yelled "Stay strong Karl, I'm coming". I think Bailey just takes Karl to tease Danielle.
ReplyDeleteBailey also loves to rip the insoles out of everyone's shoes. She doesn't rip them apart, she just takes them out and lines the "baby-den" with them {{sigh}}. No wonder my feet hurt all the time.

ReplyDeleteMy cat is unique because he sleeps next to my daughter's crib. Anytime that she cries during the night he comes to my room and jumps on me to make sure I will wake up.
ReplyDeleteI like my dog's personality and big ears.

My dog is probably the stupidest dog to ever live. But I love him nonetheless.

my dog gives me unquestioning love
ReplyDeleteI love your story of Mack and the neighbor!
ReplyDeleteMy cat is a great alarm clock - she lets me know it’s time to feed her (gets up on the desk between me and the computer and purrs at me) and lets me know it time to go to bed (because she sleeps on me… I’ve got to go to bed so she can go to bed)

my little doxie snores louder than the bf. it's cute!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is not that unique, but my dog is terrified of the vacuum cleaner. Her eyes bulge the minute it comes out of the closet and then she disappears.

My cat is unique in the fact that he is more like a dog =) He plays fetch, cuddles on the couch, and comes to his name!

My dog Gemini is unique in that even though she weighs 55 lbs, she patiently waits until Cleo, the 10 lb terror finishes eating before Gemini will eat.

All of our Shih-Tzus have been unique and it's amazing how different their personalities can be even between litter mates. My first two were siblings. One was laid back and went with the flow. The other was fussy and hated change. They got along great and were always together.

My lab is unique because he eats bananas (and everything else he can get to) !honeypie411 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteMy cats taste buds always tickled me. I had three cats. One loved artichokes, another adored barbecue sauce and the last was game for everything food imaginable.

Our dog is unique because she can hear someone open a cheese package from 20 miles away! Great hearing and a love of cheese!

He is a bullabor, a cross between an american bull dog and a labador. He is all grey and white. He looks like a miniature labador. Very cute.

The thing that makes our Maggie special is that she has a tattoo. She was a hurricane rescue from the coast of Texas, and some places tattoo females on their bellies when they are spade. So she's a really cool chick in doggie world because of her tat!!!

ReplyDeleteDesire loved rides in the car. She knew when I took steak out the freezer and wanted me sitting or laying down when I had migraines, she would cry with me.
ReplyDeleteSomething unique about Puffy is that he hates the pool, but loves swimming at the beach. I don't know if it's the water that makes the difference, but we can't get him into the pool at home, but take him to the beach and you can't get him out of the water.

ReplyDeleteMy pet is unique because she thinks she is a baby. She likes to climb up on my lap then drape herself over my shoulder. And she is very picky about which shoulder lol.
ReplyDeleteSnotty is quite unique because her dark color runs across her nose - looks like she has a dirty nose!
ReplyDeleteThank you.

I don't have a dog right now, but when I did, my favorite thing about her was the warm greeting I got each time I walked in the door.
